About this Piece

Handmade ceramic piece using slab technique, featuring a serene face with only the lips visible, partially covered by a long-tailed swallow with outstretched wings. The bird’s wings and tail are made with geometric patterns—triangles and circles—creating visual balance, while the swallow’s back is textured with real tree bark impressions, adding an organic contrast. Surrounding the figure, real leaf impressions are gently embedded in the clay, harmonizing with the composition and enhancing the connection between the human, animal, and nature.

-SORANE- which means sound of the sky in Japanese, is inspired by the swallow and evokes its light and silent flight while capturing the light like a feather in motion. This piece symbolizes return memory and freedom of the spirit it is a tribute to the fleeting moment that connects the sky and the earth.

About Its Color
The piece has a bluish-gray base with a glossy finish that enhances its modeled volumes, evoking a sense of stillness like stone or shaded water. Copper-toned streaks on the reliefs and edges add warmth and depth. The swallow, treated with iron oxide, contrasts with the glossy background, its matte brown tone and rough texture highlighted by geometric patterns on the wings and tail. The iron oxide-painted elongated leaves surrounding the piece unify the organic and symbolic elements in an earthy palette.
