About This Piece
Ceramic vase made of stoneware using the coil hand building technique. The piece presents itself with a strong organic presence, going beyond its utilitarian function. On the front, a face with a serene and wise expression, covered by real leaves pressed into the clay, offering a subtle contrast between the smoothness of the face and the textured leaves. The exterior texture, dense and rough resembling a tree bark, contrasts with the smooth face and the glazed interior. This duality between the coarse and the refined, reinforces the contemplative and symbolic character of the work.
About Its Color
The color of the vase uses deep iron oxide tones complemented by glaze applications, producing a dynamic contrast between matte and glossy areas. Iron oxide is applied on the face to emphasize its details, with darker tones highlighting the features and deepening the grooves around the nose and mouth, creating an earthy, dark tone that captures the tranquil and steady presence of the nocturnal nature. The rest of the surface features iron oxide finishes along the bark-like texture combined with fine brushstrokes of glaze, creating subtle highlights and variations. Inside, in the wide interior, smooth glaze in a muted bluish-grey tone is revealed adding a cool, aged quality that contrasts beautifully with the opac textured exterior enhancing to the piece a contemplative presence.
